The Extraction process and how to make CBD oil

CBD (Cannabidiol) is a cannabis compound that has hit the medical industry by storm in recent years. We have seen studies conducted in Europe and the USA that promotes Cannabidiol and the health benefits. Such as relief from pain and anxiety which are most common, along with many other ailments.

CBD extracted from hemp

There are many ways to extract the oil and make CBD oil. CO2 extraction systems use CO2 as a solvent to extract oil from hemp plants.

To isolate the individual compounds this plant creates, the extracted oil must be distilled. This step is known as winterization. Followed by short path distillation.

Winterization

Winterization is the process of removing undesirable elements that were extracted during the CO2 process. Fats, waxes, lipids and trace amounts of metals are removed. This process is only needed when the oil is extracted at high pressure which is known as (supercritical) because the intense extraction pulls everting from the hemp plant.

Filtration

The mixture is then combined with 200 proof alcohol and mixed intensely until the alcohol and oil turns cloudy and ready for filtration. Overnight this mixture is kept in a freezer overnight. The extraction is filtered the next day and heated slowly to burn off the remaing alcohol

Short path Distillation

To further refine the CBD extract, the oil goes through a final process which separates compounds and can be used by itself. This method is used when manufactures need to use certain compounds that the hemp plant has produced such as CBG, CBA, THC, THC 9 etc.
